NOTICE:  The tiny house is for sale.  For questions or to place an offer, contact Linda Armstrong & The A Team Re/Max Realty at (419) 627-1996.

EHOVE Career Center students have started something new – planning, designing and building a new type of project that has become increasingly popular, a tiny home.  The recently-completed 216sq.ft. tiny home sleeps four and has a living space with thermal insulated windows, custom maple cabinets, a unique shiplap wall design and black metal roof. It will be listed for sale in June with Linda Armstrong of Re/Max.

The structure was unveiled at an event at EHOVE with attendance to project partners, local news media, and involved EHOVE staff and students on Wed, May 12 at 9:30 am.

Students in the Construction Tech, Electrical Tech, and Explore STEM programs and in the Fab Lab class participated each step of the way.  As expected, they use the hands-on skills they learned in their programs like blueprint reading, fabricating and installing steel support structures for holding tanks under the trailer, installing 120VAC wiring and 12vdc lighting, and designing and making cabinets with a CNC program.

Students also had the opportunity to directly learn about the additional real-world components of budget management, customer design challenges, and working with other trades and local companies to make the project a success.

Collision & Refinishing, Computer & Networking Technologies, and Visual & Interactive Media students also completed projects that helped complete the tiny house.

Although the project was put on hold with school closures due to the pandemic in March 2020, an unexpected benefit of the project came next.  With students in these programs being unable to work on job site group projects with local companies the tiny house project allowed students to continue to have hands-on, real-world experiences in their trade.

The home’s foundation is a custom-built trailer by Loadmaster Trailers out of Port Clinton.  The frame is made from a lumber and material donation by Janotta & Herner.  Many other local contractors provided donations, mentorship, training, and internships for EHOVE students.

The project was made possible due to a partnership with the EHOVE Development Corporation which is a 501c3 non-profit. The organization provided $15,000 and secured an additional $1,000 from the Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters.
