Phlebotomy Technician
ALL ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Careers: Phlebotomists are trained to work in hospitals, urgent care, clinics, and medical offices.
Learn: This program Is designed to prepare students to become skilled in the correct clinical procedures with the potential to work In a lab, physician's office, or home health care setting.
Skills: Phlebotomists draw blood for lab tests, transfusion, donations, and research. POCT (point-of-care-testing) including urinalysis, strep, mono, and COVID testing are included in this training. Phlebotomists will be skilled in medical terminology and standard precautions.
Cool!: 72 of the 196 hours of training in this program are online and the remaining hours are for hands-on skills training provided on campus. One of the fastest-growing Allied Health Careers, Phlebotomy is expected to grow by 8% out to 2033! This is much faster than most careers.
Certifications: Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) through National Healthcareer Association (NHA), Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support CPR through American Heart Association (AHA)
Practicum Info: 64-hour unpaid practicum experience in an area-approved laboratory.
Graduates have been employed by: Mercy of Lorain and Tiffin, Firelands Regional Medical Center, The Bellevue Hospital, ProMedica Fremont Hospital, Fisher Titus Medical Center.
